Someone on Facebook hinted that I steal ideas. DAMN RIGHT I STEAL IDEAS. I steal them then smoosh them into other ideas until their ideas look different enough that I can claim them. Even ideas I don’t know I’m stealing are stolen because I experienced them through an interaction with another person. There are only so many basic things to say about the beauty of a tree. I can use different words but we are going to repeat ourselves. Smoosh smash. Here are some beautiful things I read from people who stole ideas and smooshed them into these wisdoms. Oh my goodness I even stole from myself! I didn’t even look these up, I just scrolled through my quote blog. Thiefing Kyle!

“Beauty is enhanced by unashamed irregularities; magnificence by a façade of blunder.”

“Art is a one-sided conversation with the unobserved.”

“So this is the fact – most of us are slightly off balance, or more, and it’s no use blaming anybody. The fact is that one is not balanced psychologically, mentally, or sexually; in every way we are off balance. Now the important thing is to become aware of it, to know that one is not balanced, not how to become balanced.”

“Not much to say except to warn you not to get too serious about all this, if you want to become a writer of fiction in the future. If you intend to become a critic, that is a Whale of another color…Playing around with symbols, even as a critic, can be a kind of kiddish parlor game. A little of it goes a long way. There are other things of greater value in any novel or story…humanity, character analysis, truth on other levels…Good symbolism should be as natural as breathing…and as unobtrusive.”

“Death must be so beautiful. To lie in the soft brown earth, with the grasses waving above one’s head, and to listen to silence. To have no yesterday, and no tomorrow. To forget time, to forgive life, to be at peace.”

“The true Enlightenment thinker, the true rationalist, never wants to talk anyone into anything. No, he does not even want to convince; all the time he is aware that he may be wrong.”

“It takes a lot of intellect and confidence to accept that what makes sense doesn’t really make sense.”

“Beauty is unbearable, drives us to despair, offering us for a minute the glimpse of an eternity that we should like to stretch out over the whole of time.”

“People will do anything, no matter how absurd, to avoid facing their own souls.”

“The concept ‘God’ invented as the antithetical concept to life – everything harmful, noxious, slanderous, the whole mortal enmity against life brought into one terrible unity! The concept ‘the Beyond’, ‘real world’ invented so as to deprive of value the only world which exists – so as to leave over no goal, no reason, no task for our earthly reality!”

“The curious paradox is that when I accept myself just as I am, then I can change.”

“Write with the door closed, rewrite with the door open.”

“Admiration for a quality or an art can be so strong that it deters us from striving to possess it.”

“Most thinkers write badly because they tell us not only their thoughts but also the thinking of the thoughts.”

“When a man walks into a room he brings his whole life with him.”

“The only way to deal with an unfree world is to be so absolutely free that your very existence is an act of rebellion.”

“and then one day you find ten years have gone behind you
no one told you when to run
you missed the starting gun”

“Out, out, brief candle!
Life’s but a walking shadow,
a poor player,
That struts and frets his hour
upon the stage,
And then is heard no more”

“Life is purposeless. Don’t be shocked. The whole idea of purpose is wrong — it comes out of greed. Life is a sheer joy, a playfulness, a fun, a laughter, to no purpose at all. Life is its own end, it has no other end. The moment you understand it you have understood what meditation is all about. It is living your life joyously, playfully, totally, and with no purpose at the end, with no purpose in view, no purpose there at all. Just like small children playing on the sea beach, collecting seashells and coloured stones.”

“The only way to be creative over time — to not be undone by our expertise — is to experiment with ignorance, to stare at things we don’t fully understand.”

“A clear horizon — nothing to worry about on your plate, only things that are creative and not destructive… I can’t bear quarreling, I can’t bear feelings between people — I think hatred is wasted energy, and it’s all non-productive. I’m very sensitive — a sharp word, said by a person, say, who has a temper, if they’re close for me, haunts me for days. I know we’re only human, we do go in for these various emotions, call them negative emotions, but when all these are removed and you can look forward and the road is clear ahead, and now you’re going to create something — I think that’s as happy as I’ll ever want to be.”

“A sad soul can kill you quicker, far quicker, than a germ.”

“My wisdom lies in having been many things and in many places in order to become one person.”

“You know that point in your life when you realize that the home you grew up in isn’t really your home anymore? And all of a sudden the idea of ‘home’ is gone and you feel like you can never get it back. It’s like you’re homesick for a place that doesn’t even exist.”

“I don’t have to have faith, I have experience.”
